Irony really sucks sometimes
So all the bleeding hearts have said that Chief Illiniwek, rest his soul, represented the killing of American Indians by self-serving ignorant uppity white people for their own gain.
And then Chief Illiniwek became an American Indian killed by self-serving ignorant uppity white people for their own gain.
Can’t you just smell the irony?
The Death of the "evil" Chief Illiniwek
So much hubbub has been generated the last few years over certain pro and college teams’ mascots and whether or not they are offensive. Specifically (to this discussion), the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana’s Chief Illiniwek, who has been figuratively killed by the do-gooder bleeding hearts.
The Chief has been a symbol of the U of I for nearly a century. Until the last few years, nobody anywhere has considered him to be offensive. Then all of a sudden the NCAA decided (or was convinced) that he was offensive to American Indians. No specific explanation as to HOW he was offensive has ever been given, that I have ever seen, other than he supposedly “demeans” American Indians.
