Springfield Bloggers night at a Sliders game?
There appears to be at least some small measure of interest in an unofficial Springfield Bloggers night at a Sliders game. I’m not necessarily spearheading the effort to coordinate this, but I’m just going to throw the home games dates out there and then we can use this forum (or any other of your choosing…) to banter back and forth on what dates work and what dates don’t, and if there is enough interest, we can pick a night and call it “Springfield Bloggers” Night at the Ballpark. (And of course, this is all contingent on the weather.)

Dang… I sound like I work in the Promotions Dept. for Springfield Sliders Inc., don’t I?!
Anyway, that’s the remaining schedule for Sliders games, if anyone’s {seriously} interested. As I said, we can kind of kick dates around and see what nights work best for the most people. Of course, I suppose there’s nothing saying we only have to do one night, but we can jump off that bridge when we get to it.
UPDATE (6/18 2:45pm): So far, we have a vote from Allie for “mid-July or later”, and then we have votes (all from Mr. Cacciatore) for any of the following:
- July 2
- July 7
- July 11
- July 12
- July 13
Again, understand that I’m not necessarily assuming the role of Julie McCoy, your cruise director, and putting all of this together, but if we can get enough interest and decide on a date or two, hopefully we can all work it out. Who knows- it might actually be fun to meet the faces behind the blogs for a night of baseball and beers* and what not.
* The question was posed by Dan at BFS as to whether this was to be a Bloggers ‘n Beer night or a Family (i.e. bring the kids along) Night. I suggested in return that we could at least in theory have one of each, but I also know how difficult it potentially will be to decide on ONE date, let alone two. What are everyone’s thoughts on the kids-or-no-kids, spouses-or-no-spouses, etc. thing?
UPDATE (6/19 8:53am): Apparently, July is the overwhelming preference. I’m not suggesting we chisel this in granite yet, but how do people feel about the Sunday the 13th game? Or maybe Saturday the 12th? Or maybe other suggestions?
(And thanks for all the interest and the great comments!!!)

Screw you, spam bitches
mid july or later. im in NY and wont be back till then.
Would this be a bloggers and beer thing, or a bloggers with family thing?
Don’t really see why we can’t have one of each…
(my 7-year-old will be pissed if he finds out I went to a Sliders game without him, but by the same token, grownups need play dates too… )
The month of July will work for the Shoo’s.
July will work for the Johnsons.
I, for one, was looking forward to getting all New Kids on Robin Roberts with lighters, 151 and sacrificial chickens. But with the kids there …
Honestly, I think if there’s a night that bloggers and/or bloggers with families can come, we should just do that. I think those who want to have beer could still, feasibly, have beer. We’d just have to make sure the younguns aren’t involved in the pass-down chain.
[...] threw the first pitch. Everyone up for [...]
i dont have any of those little people that you all call kids, and my husband will not be joining me in my visit, but im good for either. im with unpainted, we could probably work it out to be “fun for everyone.” and i would also like to reiterate that i think its a great idea. ive been telling my mom (disarranging) we should do this for years.
July is good for me.
I don’t mind drinking a couple of beers around my kids, it’s the spewing of profanity and the chucking of foreign objects at umpires that has me concerned. And the picking of fights with the non-bloggers in attendance. But if everyone promises to be on their best behavior, I think it will be okay.
UH and Allie: I agree; I see no reason why a cold frosty adult beverage or two can’t be consumed, even with kids there. I had a beer when I took my seven-year-old. Only got pulled over twice on the way home this time. Seriously, we’re all big boys and girls; I think we can all mind our intake.
Dan: Ref the spewing of profanity and the chucking of foreign objects at umpires and picking of fights with the non-bloggers… are you concerned about yourself or the rest of us?
At the game I attended, I don’t remember there really being ANY profanity spewing (honestly!), I am reasonably sure nothing got chucked at the umpires, and the only fight I was really concerned with was the one I was about to start between me and the little chickie behind me that said that Van Halen was played at her grandpa’s prom. But I controlled myself.
Truthfully, I thought the crowd was very well-behaved for a baseball game. Especially a baseball game here. I’ve been to some SPI Cardinals / Capitals games and seen numerous fights, and of course there’s almost always someone who can’t control their language, but I don’t recall a single time at this game that I was thinking, “I shouldn’t have brought L’il Johann” or that I wished he hadn’t seen/heard something.
I think it’ll be fine.
What’s the word on non-blogger (but loyal reader/commenter) participation? Maybe if we sit a couple of rows behind you and fetch beers?
BFS Dan, if you’re concerned about your kids cussing up a storm and harrassing the umpires, you’re probably better off leaving them at home
I’m sure Micah and I could make this work. We’d love to take in a Sliders game with the rest of you blogerrific people.
Nancy: Great call on the kids!!! HA!!!!
Absolutely, “loyal readers/commenters” can come as well. I don’t know why you would have to sit behind us or anything like that, but if you’re volunteering to fetch beers…
John: Awesome! It’ll be cool to have TV stars with us!
