How ’bout them Cubbies?
All right, Cub fans… bring it on- what’s the excuse this time for the fine, fine fashion in which the Cubs once again choked (albeit much later than normal)?
Goats? Curses? Fans trying to catch foul balls? Wind shear? Global warming? A one-armed man? Dubya?
Here’s one: maybe God just hates the Cubs.

I think it’s because they suck.
And there… you… go.
Hey, it’s simple. It’s the CUBS!!
Exactly.
To ensure JDAB is a fair and balanced forum, allow a Cubs fan to weigh in here, albeit late. Essentially, I agree with AnonCom. The Cubs just flat-out sucked in this series. People will point to Piniella pulling Marmol in Game 1, accuse him of looking ahead when he should have been setting a winning tone for the series. But that’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation, isn’t it? If Marmol steamrolls through to the ninth, the Cubs score one run, and Dempster picks up a save, Piniella looks like a genius. Anyways, if there was any sort of curse at work this time around, it’s that the Cubs let other teams do their work for them to ensure a playoff spot. Let’s face it – they weren’t exactly mowing people down in the final days (that Florida series … oy). These guys weren’t just leaving the bats on their shoulders; sometimes, they were forgetting to take them out of the bag.
That said, let me say that I predicted after the D-Backs sweep that they’d be lucky to win a game against Colorado. (Of course, there’s no online proof of this, but reliable friends will verify if necessary.) I also predicted a Rockies-Indians World Series, which seems ready to happen. In that instance, I root for the Indians because they are, after all, the closest thing left to the Cubbies.
Sincerely,

I live for fair and balanced.
But you’re right- taking a huge gamble that pays off makes Piniella a genius. Instead, well…
I believe you in regard to your prediction of the AZ-CO series. And your prognostication of Rockies-Indians is looking pretty good right now to. I’d like to see the Rockies win it all. Cleveland just had one not all that terribly long ago, and it’d make a great story if Colorado won.
At least we know who won’t be playing in the November Classic. {coughYankeescough}
